Step into Schumpeter’s Gale!

This blog is where I will post my thoughts and, hopefully, through interviews, the thoughts of others on the topics of innovation, growth, and restructuring. The title, of the blog “Schumpeter’s Gale”, is an homage and refers to the forces of creative destruction (the term “creative destruction” itself coined by Werner Sombart) that Schumpeter popularized in his book Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy.

Schumpeter’s quote [“… Capitalism requires] the perennial gale of Creative Destruction.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_destruction#cite_note-Schumpeter1942_2-24) captures perfectly the ongoing, confusing, and yet observably consistent process of the business innovation cycle, repeated over and over again.

As a young economics student, the study of economists such as Schumpeter, Marx, and others was very impactful and engaging to me. Schumpeter was one of the most influential economists of the early 20th century. Schumpeter seemed most relevant to me as a young man growing up in a capitalist system. The concept of Creative Destruction has stayed with me to this day.
