Given the company’s history, we felt that typical venture investors would be skeptical of the team’s ability to yield attractive returns. We proposed seeking a corporate partner as a strategic investor. We identified and approached several manufacturers of a product used in the client’s integrated solution. In exchange for a period of exclusivity, one of these companies proposed a multimillion dollar minority stake investment.
The Courage of Conviction
After the strategic investment was secured and the crisis averted, the company let preexisting status quo government projects take priority. After pressure from the investor to fully commit to the commercial marketing plan, so the story goes, the business plan we prepared was taken from a desk drawer, “dusted off”, and put into place. The resulting sales resulted in the company being named to a Fastest Growing Companies list, and ultimately acquired by a public company.
